There are days that are just normal days, but then there are those life-changing days that you remember forever. Today was one of the life-changing days for Dave Haynes, his wife Rayna and their children. After a long hard day at work, Dave received the keys to his new home. He and his family will now have a safe and affordable place to live. Fairfield Habitat faced many challenges in 2020-2021 with Covid, but we still managed to get a new house built thanks to Homes for Iowa. One of the highlights of this home build was watching the house being moved through town and being placed in its permanent location.
Once the moratorium on volunteers was lifted we saw many business in the community come forward and volunteer their time to help finish the house, shed, porches and landscaping. Many contractors worked with us to finish the project as well. It was truly a community effort.
Construction on the next Habitat for Humanity house has already begun, and selection of the next homeowner is in progress. Habitat will be partnering with Fairfield High School on the main construction of the house. Students will gain experience in construction and Habitat gains some great volunteers!
If you would like to schedule to volunteer for Habitat – either at the build site, or at the ReStore call (641) 209-9450 or email info@fairfieldhabitat.org. Your support is truly appreciated.
