Because of Covid-19 Greater Fairfield Area Habitat for Humanity wasn’t allowed to use volunteers to build a house in 2020. Luckily Homes for Iowa delivered!
Supplying an affordable home was more important than ever so GFHFH needed to adjust how we were going to make it happen. Homes for Iowa, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, exists to address Iowa’s housing shortage, train offenders in skilled trades and reduce recidivism. Homes for Iowa plans to build 875 moderately priced homes over the next 10 years in collaboration with Iowa Prison Industries. Beautiful 3-bedroom, 2-bath ranch style homes will be built for individuals and families and delivered all over Iowa.

Wednesday, May 26th, the home arrived. It was an amazing site. Thank you to Alliant Energy, Mediacom, and Lisco for moving lines that were hanging low so that the amazingly skilled driver and crew could get the house in the correct place. The house was positioned to the south of the foundation, and then slowly rolled and then lowered into position sitting perfectly on top.

The new family is very excited, as is everyone at Greater Fairfield Area Habitat for Humanity. We are still in need of volunteers to finish this home. Front porch, back porch, flooring, landscaping, and other projects till need to get done. If you would like to get involved please email admin@fairfieldhabitat.org.
